What does the Bible say about forgiving people who have hurt me?

Forgiveness is a choice. To not forgive someone means I have chosen to hurt them back for what they have done to me. In the process of doing that, I am seriously hurting myself and tying myself to a ship that is going down.

To release yourself from this sinking ship, you must choose to forgive the person, acknowledge the hurt and the pain. Turn them over to God for His vengeance, if necessary, for the wrong they have done to you. This is possible only as we are forgiven for our own sin. Jesus bore your sin and pain on the cross. He did not deserve to be crucified, but He did it for you. Believe in Him and He will forgive you and then you can be free to forgive others, leaving the judgement up to Him.
